18 WAYS TO CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Since the 1970s, the month of February has been focused on celebrating the Black community. Black History Month is celebrated across the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany and Netherlands by highlighting the rich culture, history,  talents and contributions that African Americans have made to society.

As a woman of color, I am proud to offer you eighteen ideas for celebrating Black history this year.

Here are 18 ways you can celebrate Black History Month:

  1. Make a purchase at a Black-owned business or organization
  2. Teach African American students about vocational careers 
  3. Highlight the past or present accomplishments of Black team members 
  4. Attend or host a Black culture event in your community
  5. Share this article on social media
  6. Read a biography of an influential Black figure
  7. Call out racism and prejudice in your community
  8. Study the African Diaspora
  9. Learn more about a Black author
  10. Volunteer to help support a social cause for the Black community 
  11. Donate to an Historically Black College or University
  12.  Introduce an emerging leader in the Black community to your audience 
  13. Learn about an unsung hero of Black history
  14. Discuss what you’ve learned about Black history with your loved ones
  15. Encourage healthy conversations about Black history in the workplace 
  16. Visit a Black History or Civil Rights Museum in your local area
  17. Support a Black creative (artist, poet, local musician, etc.)
  18. Trace the history of various industries and discuss how it impacts today’s society

In summary there are many ways to celebrate Black History Month for people of all race & ethnic backgrounds. Keep in mind, you can continue acknowledging this tradition year round!
